An optional field visit to the Gökova marine protected area, following the two Alliance meeting days in Akyaka.

Gökova Bay lies between Bodrum and Marmaris in southwestern Türkiye. Its coast brings together seagrass meadows, wetlands and habitats for Mediterranean monk seals and sandbar sharks.
A local guide to the bay
The visitor guide introduces Gökova's marine life, small-scale fishing communities, the Azmak wetlands, Sedir Island and the Carian Trail. It includes a map of the no-fishing zones and advice for visiting with care.

A boat visit with a fish meal.
Please indicate in the registration sheet whether you would like to join the optional site visit and add any dietary requirements. Meal arrangements will be confirmed with participants.
Visit with care
The local guide explains how visitors can help protect the bay.
- Keep beaches, shores and the sea free of litter.
- Keep your distance from monk seals and stay out of their resting and breeding caves.
- Avoid anchoring on seagrass meadows or tying boats to trees.
- Respect the no-fishing zones marked in the guide.
